Press Release: Avon, Ohio : Xperion-CDI Case Study

CDI (Cutting Dynamics Inc.) of Avon Ohio and Xperion Corp. of Herford Germany have formed a joint venture Xperion / CDI to be headquartered in CDI’s Avon Lake Ohio facility.

Xperion and CDI have developed along with Boeing Corp. numerous composite components that will be installed on the 787- Dreamliner. These additional composite components will enable Boeing to save additional weight on its 787 Dreamliner project while maintaining the highest safety standards. The current configuration of the 787 is approximately 50% composite and Boeing is adding more composite parts to further lighten the aircraft.

Xperion / CDI will start productions using its patented CCM (continuous compression molding) Technology, along with its stamp forming capability. The new venture will initially employ approximately 7-10 associates and hopes to grow employment to 25 within 2-3 years.

Xperion, a division of Avanco was founded in 2000 when W. Tappe purchased Dornier’s (An EADS Company) Aircraft Composite/ Ceramic Division and ACM (owner of the patented CCM technology). CDI was founded in 1985 by Bill Carson and has been manufacturing Aircraft Components for over two decades. CDI is a certified supplier to Boeing, Sikorsky Aircraft, and B/E Aerospace among others. Bill Carson will be president of the joint venture.

“We are excited about the opportunity to combine Xperion’s 50+ years of Aircraft experience alone with our knowledge base. This is a great opportunity for team CDI and for Lorain County.”
